Dr. Harold Drutz, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Harold Drutz completed his undergraduate degree in Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1969. His postgraduate training included residency in Urology, General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynecology and he obtained his fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1974. He did postgraduate training in 1974 for six months under Dr. Ted Morgan in the Bladder Function Unit at the Toronto General Hospital. In 1975 and 1976 Dr. Drutz was awarded a McLaughlin Travelling Fellowship. Postgraduate training was carried on in Sweden (Axel Ingelman-Sundberg),The Netherlands (Peter Donker), England (Richard Turner-Warwick), Scotland (Eric Glen and David Rowan), Ethiopia (Reginald and Catherine Hamlin), United States (Jack Robertson, Emil Tanagho, Paul Hodgkinson, Alain Rossier). He is Chief of the Urogynecology and Urodynamic Investigative Units at Mount Sinai Hospital and Baycrest Geriatric Centre, and is the Director of the University of Toronto Postgraduate Fellowship Training Program in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS). He has served as a Board of Director for the American Urogynecological Society (AUGS). He was President (1994-96) of the International Urogynecological Association (IUGA) and is the first Canadian ever elected to this position. He was Chairman of the Subcommittee on Urogynecology for the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) (1992-2001). He is Section Editor of the International Urogynecology Journal, and is on the Editorial board of the Urogynecologia International Journal. He is Chairperson for the Advisory Board on "Urogenital - Aging - Mature Women's Health" for Pharmacia Corporation. Dr. Drutz has been appointed to the Duloxetine Urinary Incontinence Global Advisory Board and also the Canadian Advisory Board for Eli Lilly and Company. He is an appointed member of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Expert Advisory Panel on Urogynecology (only Canadian appointed to this panel). He has been appointed to the Board of Governors of The Canadian Continence Foundation (TCCF). He has been elected to the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) and was appointed as Chairman of the Education Committee of IUGA(1995-2000). In June of 1999, Dr. Drutz was elected for a two year term(2000-2002) as first president of the Canadian Society of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (CSURPS) which is a special group within the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC). From 1999 to 2000 Dr. rutz was appointed Chairman of Committees for IUGA. Dr. Drutz is also on the Global and Canadian Advisory Boards for, Gynecare, Janssen-Ortho Inc., and Watson Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Drutz's main areas of clinical research are in reconstructive pelvic surgery, pharmacology of the lower urinary tract, periurethral injections, urogenital aging, educational standards in URPS, and the role of thyroid function in lower urinary tract disorders. He is the Senior Editor of a new textbook on "Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery" published by Springer-Verlag (2003). |
