Diaa E.E. Rizk

Professor Diaa E.E. Rizk MBBCh (Hons), MSc (Hons), FRCOG,  FRCS,  MD is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Ain Shams Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Cairo, Egypt.

He received clinical training in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and General Surgery. He studied Medicine and obtained his primary qualification from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt with highest honours. He trained in Ain Shams University Hospital and several teaching hospitals in the UK.  He also has a Diploma in Health Care Administration. He joined the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates (UAE) University in 1995 as an Assistant then Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology until December 2007.

His research interests include four main topics related to general Obstetrics and Gynaecology: Reproductive Health, Family planning, Community Gynaecology and Women’s Health besides Urogynaecology. He recently focused his research studies on ageing of the female pelvic floor and ethnic differences in female pelvic floor disorders. He has published more than 102 original research articles, case reports and reviews and 56 congress Abstracts in peer-reviewed journals in these scientific fields. He obtained 10 research grants as a Principal investigator including the IUGA grant 2010. He currently provides editorial consultantships and is a peer-reviewer for several high-impact biomedical journals and is one of the Editors of the International Urogynecology Journal and Pelvic floor dysfunction since January 2007.

As a clinician, Dr. Rizk made important contributions to provision of clinical service in general gynaecology, women’s health and urogynaecology, organization and development of structured residency training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, training of national residents and coordination of the local continuous professional development syllabus in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has received 6 successive travel awards from the Ethicon and Overseas Funds of the RCOG and RCS to do clinical attachments with renowned international clinical academic experts in the USA and UK. In recognition of his clinical experience and professional development, he was elected as a Fellow of the RCOG (FRCOG) in April 2004.

As a medical professional, he is an active member of several national, regional and international committees notably the Terminology and the Research and Development Committees of IUGA; the Education Committee of the International Continence Society, the Education Committee of the World Association of Medical Editors and the FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Task Force on Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Reconstructive Surgery.  He is the Vice-Chair of the Regional Advisory Panel for the Department of Reproductive Health and Research for the African and Eastern Mediterranean Regions of the World Health Organization.
